I garden...well, a lot!
"Gardening Charlotte" is my weekly column on beekeeping, gardening and cooking. This is not your grandmother's gardening column. I loved my grandmother and will include some old-fashioned tips but I also share new gardening techniques trying to adjust to our rapidly changing climate; healthy, simple recipes, especially when I cook what I grow, and introduce you to the amazing world of pollinators and honeybees.
The stories are a combination of how-to, who-did and what happened. I wish I could tell you I was a dedicated, devoted and meticulous beekeeper, gardener and cook. I do love being in my garden, enjoy picking what I grow and watching my bees but if it isn't easy, effective and low maintenance, I have a tendency to skip it. I don't even grow grass.
Garden tips are included but let's be honest, the gardening part is an excuse to explore our wonderful, and changing, world, from nature right outside our doors to my very own, at times downright glorious, failures. If we can laugh at ourselves and still keep on trying, together we are bound to cook up something better.
This is a very personal column. If I have one objective, it is to encourage us to reconnect with our gardens, with our local healthy food sources and yes, with each other.
