My how far this has come from the early days in 2012 when I pulled together a loose leaf "diary" for my first beginning beekeeping classes. Since then, the diary has evolved into a combination beginning beekeeping book and handy collection of charts and check lists to make the beginning beekeeping process easier - and hopefully kind to the wallet.
A Beekeeper's Diary" won Independent Press Awards 2022 First Place in "How to" Category and Independent Book Publisher's 2021 Bronze Award in Home and Garden Category.
The book covers a variety of subjects including:
How to naturally feed honey bees
Best beekeeping equipment
Where to set up hives
How to get honey bees
How to manage pests and diseases
The paperback book also includes a suggested month to month beekeeping calendar, extensive reference index and black and white illustrations.
"A Beekeeper's Diary Self-Guide to Beekeeping" is also available as an ebook with 70% color illustrations.
This new book has been reviewed and approved by the Great Plains Master Beekeeping program. It is recommended for use with beginning beekeeping classes. The 310-page large print book also stands alone for those who can't easily access or participate in beginning beekeeping classes.

BOOK REVIEWS
“This book is exemplary in its structure, organization, and pacing. The structure of the chapters/parts aid in a compelling organization of the story or information. The pacing is even throughout and matches the tone/genre of the book….This book is exemplary in production quality and cover design. The physical materials, printing, and binding are of professional quality and traditional industry standards. The typesetting and page layout (including illustrations, images, or figures) are easy to follow, thoughtfully designed, and error free. The cover appears to be professionally designed and is compellingly related to the content/genre of the book. This book is exemplary in its choice of topic or theme of the story. It is unique but still has strong appeal for most readers in its intended genre…
This book is exemplary in its voice and writing style. It has a unique voice, and the writing style is consistent throughout. The style and tone are also consistent with or will appeal to readers of the intended genre…This book is well researched and well written. While the lessons in the pages work well, the added pages for notes, etc., really help make this a great interactive book on beekeeping, as well as maintaining a healthy yard.”

"Just a note to say how much I've enjoyed your book A Beekeepers Diary. I've been a beekeeper for 7 years and like many have become a bee nerd in my book collecting. I've never been able to recommend just one book to new beekeepers and now I can! Sincerely,"

"This is a beginner’s book, certainly. But it is different than any you have looked at in the past. When confronted with a task for the first time, she will offer several perspectives on how to accomplish it. Which is the right one, well, IT DEPENDS, doesn’t it? So, the reader finds where she fits in on this and accomplishes the task the best way for her. There are almost always several correct answers.
She also uses checklists a lot. These are always handy and with them she often uses blank pages so you can write your own list, or make notes on something, or make a question for later.
Why do you want to keep bees, anyway? A good question right at the beginning. And start with Langstroth equipment because there is so much written about it, and so much information on it. You can graduate to other equipment when you get the basic biology stuff behind you.
There are a host of “Good To Know” tips, which cover whatever topic the chapter is covering but from a somewhat different perspective. For instance, Buying used equipment – good or bad, and why?
Check out both of Charlotte’s books. They are different enough from what you have that it will be worth your time."
